I have a question about Terrence that I'd like to pose to everyone. I'm curious about something. It's actually a question more about Mac I guess. It seems to be a popular trend in fanfics for authors to make Mac basically feel like he would be happier if Terrence simply...went away, if that makes sense. I think that's actually defaming Mac's character. I think Mac's a better person than that. People like to show him as better off at Foster's, that the Foster's crew treat him like a little brother, and that he basically doesn't consider Terrence family in preference for his "new" family. I think that's sad, though I can understand it. So I'm wondering, what do you guys think? I'm not looking to flame anyone, I'm just wondering what people think. That's why I made this a poll, so people can be anonymous. So which of the choices do you ascribe to? If Other, can you say what it is please? Anyways I personally like to look at Mac as disappointed that Terrence is mean, but secretly wishing he would be nicer, so he can have a "real" big brother to take care of him. Not that he wants Terrence to be a different person, just to act different. Though I do admit that despite this he isn't making much of an effort on his own part to change things, just escaping to Foster's...not that I blame him though! Just another thing that makes Mac less-than-perfect, which is a good thing in my book. But this may just be me wishful thinking. However, to be honest, there *are* incedents in the series that suggest that Mac might not care whether Terrence lived or died. I'm mostly thinking of the pilot where he shamelessly threw his brother to an Extremasaur in order to save Bloo - so does he honestly care, deep down, more about his imaginary friend than his own brother? It's possible. But I like to be more optimistic. I've never done a poll anywhere before, can you tell? ;D Anyways I may do a How does Terrence feel about Mac poll later, so save your reverse arguments for that one.

I think Mac wavers between wanting Terrence gone and wanting him to be nicer, depending on Terrence's latest antics, but if forced to choose would go for the latter. He's just not mean-spirited enough to wish Terrence any permanent harm.

It's difficult to say. Either Mac wishes that Terrence would be a different person or just be nicer to him. It does appear (after seeing the Pilot) that Mac cares more about his imaginary friend than he does for his brother. I can't really blame him, either. I've said it before, but even though Mac and Bloo are best friends, I believe that in a way, Bloo is like a brother Mac would rather have (even with Bloo being at Foster's, he is still "family" in Mac's view).

Well we certainly know that Terrence doesn't give a crap about Mac, cause in the pilot he teamed up with Duchess and didn't care his brother was under serious danger with the Extremasaur either. Mac probably would like Terrence to care more, but realizes it's kinda hopeless. I agree with O.R Dude, Bloo's like the brother Mac would rather have in the show. It's really sad. Regardless, they haven't shown us much with the family so we can't say for sure. (The pilot , by the way, shows Bloo being more close to Mac but in later eps he isn't even acting all that much like a friend, so now Mac seems even more moody, as we've noticed.)

I'd rather say Mac wanted Terrence to be a different person - I mean, an IQ-0 older brother that loves him isn't the best he could hope for, other wise he wouldn't have created Bloo. You see, he created him when he was 3, and that time Terrence was 8, so probably he wasn't yet the angry, pimply punk bully he's now.

Pimply, no, but he might've been angry, maybe about the death or desertion of his father, or perhaps his classmates were unusually cruel; mine certainly were. There are a lot of reasons why an 8 year-old might be filled with anger. Some, sadly, are just born that way, with a brain chemical defect of some kind. Something like prozac might help Terrence, but I doubt it.

I think Mac would rather see Terrence lighten up than vanish. He's just too good natured to wish anything THAT ill on him, in my opinion. I don't think they have much of a relationship, Terrence is probably jealous of his younger sibling, and Mac probably just wants to stay out of his way. I dont' think Terrence's family has ever been anything resembling stable.

I completely agree with the above poster.

Well, I really doubt that Mac would want Terrence to "disappear". Simply because the writers have made more than one connection between Bloo and Terrence's behavior. Often time Bloo acts like exactly like Terrence, but instead of using this aggressivness to beat up on Mac he uses it to protect him (the scene in the pilot where Bloo tries to "save" Mac from Ed, echoing some of Terrence's earlier lines). I think, deep down, Bloo isn't what Mac wants from any brother, but rather what Mac wants from Terrence.
Hope that makes sense.

I can't recall anything in the show that suggests Mac or Terrence care anything about each other. They have their own lives and think very little about what goes on outside it. There's some sibling rivalry when they're together, and that's about it.
That may change. Bloo and Red can be seen as a proxy for the "brotherly" relationship the real brothers don't have. Mac and Terrence could have a bonding episode. I don't think that will ever be made. They've grown apart. Unfortunately, brothers do that.

In 'Eddie Monster', though, all the teenagers were violent, moronic and bloodthirsty.

I guess that's what fires me up about Foster's. It's the old cliche that pretty much all teens are moronic and violent, and it's IMPOSSIBLE for two brothers to friggin' LOVE EACHOTHER!
I have a wonderful relationship with my older brother, so I don't see why the Foster's cast can't show a little daring and have an episode with Mac and Terrance showing a brotherly bond.

I've personally given up all hope of that ever happening. That way if it does happen it will be a pleasant surprise, instead of a crushing disappointment if it never does.

I always thought that Mac and Terrence's relationship is like oil mixing with water. Mac is afraid of him, and Terrence hates him with every fiber of his existence.

I always thought that Mac and Terrence's relationship is like oil mixing with water. Mac is afraid of him, and Terrence hates him with every fiber of his existence. I take exception to that. Bullying someone and hating them are to very different things. I actually think Terrence hates Bloo far more than he hates Mac. They're just siblings and they've got some issues. I still believe that even if they never become the best of friends, their relationship will even out when they get older. Although, if Mac does hold onto Bloo forever (which he will, because I said so), it might impede that a little... Oh, and I totally agree with the thought of a Mac-Terrence brotherly love episode! Maybe Mac's getting bullyed or something and Bloo n' Terrence get into that whole, cheesy, "no one's a jerk to Mac but ME!" attitude and proceed to team up and save the day in some heroic fashion. I would LOVE that.
