We now know that she does not in fact know that Mac goes to Foster's after school every day. What does she think he's doing, hanging around Van d**e Park or the mall all afternoon? (Edit - I can't spell the name of the dang park? That's really sad. )

Well, I'm sure Terrence is doing whatever he does, and his mum's not even home 'til later in the night, so Mac is safe. So she might think both of her boys are safely at home, watching TV or doing homework.
Of course, she could not think that, and instead assume they're out playing with friends, if she assumes that Mac now has friends because he doesn't have Bloo anymore.

Mac's mom tells him that she will "see you tonight", and she gets up at 5:00 am, and leaves before he has to leave for school, so that means she probably is not even aware that he isn't home after school, since she herself isn't there. I have to wonder what she does for a living that keeps her away from home for such long hours, and the only things I can think of would be that she is a school teacher, or a principal, perhaps. I have to get up at 5:00 am and often it's dark before I get home during the school year, so that would make sense. People in the medical profession would have hours like that, too, but Mac's mom doesn't dress like a doctor or nurse, and for certain she'd be able to afford better housing if she was a doctor! Most jobs are 9-5, and there would be no need to get up at 5:00 am to be at work by nine, unless she had a really, really long commute.

I think it's implied in one of the episodes (Frankie My Dear, I think) that Mac's Mom works at a bank. No it isn't, though a lot of people think so. All Mac says is that he organises her bank statements - *everyone* with a bank account has bank statements, including me, and I certainly don't work at a bank. I'm not saying she *doesn't* work at a bank because nobody (with the possibility of the show writers) knows what Mom does, I'm just saying there's no proof that she does.

I'm not saying she *doesn't* work at a bank because nobody (with the possibility of the show writers) knows what Mom does, I'm just saying there's no proof that she does. We DO know that Mac's mom has to get up at 5:00 am to get ready for work, and leaves the apartment even before Mac has to leave for school, and most elementary school classes start by 8:00 or 8:15 am, so that means that Mac's mom leaves pretty early, too. They don't seem to live in a really huge metropolitan area, like say, Los Angeles or Atlanta(which has the longest average daily commute in the US), so it wouldn't make sense for his mom to have to spend a really long time just getting to work. We also know that she doesn't usually get home until night. Now, some of you may have heard of the phrase "keeping banker's hours", which is a euphamism for opening promptly at 9:00 am and taking two hours, from 12:00-2:00 for lunch, then closing down promptly at 5:00 pm, and with most banks I've ever dealt with, this is quite literally true! Larger banks which DO keep longer hours employ people in shifts, since you do not want tired, burned-out people dealing with other people's MONEY, so I don't tend to believe that Mac's mom works at a bank. pitbulllady

I've always thought of her as a buisness woman, the kind with a really good job and such. I've always pictured her as being an executave type of person. Here's the list of things I've pictured her to be
Executave-of something
Clothes designer
Owns her own buisness
Mabe she works two jobs?
Mannager
Teacher, or Principal
I have no idea, but she's defenatly a buisness woman.

I see her as a lawyer, but that's only because she reminds me SO much of my own mother (who is a lawyer as well). Not to mention their hours are the same. It's 5:10 when I'm posting this and I can hear her getting ready upstairs.

I've certainly never known one who lived in an apartment where there were lots of problems like no hot water, etc., and Mac's mom indicates in "Infernal Slumber" that the apartment building they live in has many issues. pitbulllady

Not always. It's a common misconception that lawyers are loaded. If you're a partner, then yeah you get a large percentage of the money that comes with each case, but if not, it's not that different than a lot of other jobs. I mean, it's not like she's getting slave wages. But if your a single mother and you've got two kids to support, which both my mother and Mac's mother are, it can be tough to make ends meet sometimes.
But again, it's just personal reasons that I consider her a lawyer. She could really be anything.

The Simpsons said that there are enough laywers around the world so that every person on earth could have 2.1 laywers. So it's possible that Mac's mother is a laywer.
