Since there has been much controversy about this subject, I've taken the liberty of making a topic for it. At the risk of starting a flame war, let's try not to stick to a single pairing for the whole topic. And let's also not focus on pairings that make us bleed. It's nice to discuss good pairings sometimes too. ...honestly, I support no Foster's pairings (well, if you don't count me n' Wilt , but what fangirl doesn't at least idly imagine a quiet moment with their favorite character, fingers/hands intertwined, staring into each others' eyes, leaning in...Others: GET ON WITH IT!). None of them really appeal to me. I mean, Bloo/Mac and Eduardo/Wilt, two of the big ones, just don't captivate me. Seeing a blob and a little brown-haired boy make out doesn't exactly give me the warm fuzzies, and neither does a tall, thin creature awkwardly bending down to steal a kiss from a bull-esque IF...(sorry to Prince Fala, CG, and Labloogirl)... And, honestly, neither does OC romance. Okay, true, me and a friend that are in a roleplay together pulled off an OC x Alphonse Elric (mildly hinted at, but still there), but that one interests me because the OC is original. Usually, the OCs I see are all the same, bubbly, sweet, yet smart and capable girls who can bring a smile to their man's face...BLECK! Once I read a summary for one in which Mac and his 'girlfriend' are fighting, and Mac considers suicide. WTF? Mac is too smart for that! And, I even tried to READ one of those horrendous Mary Sue fics, only to find myself heavily suppressing my gag reflex. Honestly, it felt so...pointless! I haven't sat down and thoroughly read through Fomalhaut or antgirl's works yet, so I cannot say if your guys' characters fall in the same lines as these...hideous monstrosities some people concoct. Anyhoo, discuss the pairings.

Well, I too don't support any Foster's pairings. Simply because I enjoy stories that stick close to canon, and romantic love plays little to no role in the Foster's series. It just doesn't. That being said, it is almost impossible to find ANY fic without even the slightest trace of pairing hidden somewhere. So, while I don't "ship" any couples, there are a few I will tolerate. The two of them being Mac/Goo and, believe it or not (I tend to slap myself for this one sometimes) Bloo/Berry. My reasoning behind the former is that, well, it's plausible, so I don't really mind if it's in there. However, I have absolutely no justification for the latter. Truth be told, there is only one story with a Bloo/Berry side plot that I have found likable. And that was only because Bloo was indifferent and dismissive of Berry without being as clueless as in Berry Scary. Another thing that I accept when it comes to the pairing is that Bloo is (by default) out of character in this and ANY pairing, and if I happen to write a review I'll mention this fact (despite enjoying it). But in the end, and it really kills me to say this, Bloo/Berry gives me the warm fuzzies. Man...even admitting it to the world makes me want to give my brain a strong dosage of Listerine. But, those are only the pairings I can accept while reading a fanfic. The list of ones I can't is much longer. Wilt/Ed, Frankie/Herriman, Frankie/Mac, and (especially) Mac/Bloo all really turn me off. Now, don't think I haven't tested the water's when it comes to these sorts of fics. Most of the stories I've read (well, more like started) are complete garbage, but there are a few gems out there and it saddens me that I cannot enjoy the writings of a gifted author at all, simply because of her choice of subject. When it comes to Mac/Bloo...in the end it all comes back to what I said before, Bloo is out of character in ANY pairing. Especially that one! I just can't get my brain around it and, frankly, am not trying that hard to accept it. Of course, I don't hold it against any shippers of these couples. That is totally their right, just as it is my right to dislike them. Hell, sometimes I wish I did like them, so I could enjoy those gems I mentioned earlier to their fullest extent. But it just won't happen for me because, like I said, I strongly prefer stories that stick to the canon like glue. Of course, I can talk up all I want about sticking in character. I still like Bloo/Berry. So please, advocates of the pairings I have labelled "untolerable", feel free to use that in your arguements.

I'm not going to say anything since I can already see myself getting ultra defensive.

Well, Fomalhaut here - no Wilt x OC in my stories. That's just friendship. There's only Terrence x OC, to make it more fun (can you imagine Terrence dealing with the first crush?! LOL!).
Oh well. I'm not anti-slash or anything, just that all that yaoi in Foster's fanfics makes me... sad. I've read a story, won't say which, well... couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry. And Frankie x Herriman...? I mean, what will Madame Foster say...?

Well, y'all already know my thoughts on the whole "slash" thing, ESPECIALLY when it involves a male character I happen to find very attractive, so I really don't want to go there.
As for as on the show, the only pairing I wouldn't mind happening, though I know it won't-would be Wilt x Frankie, and I know that this will bother a lot of people, mainly those who would prefer to see Wilt with another male. I cannot see Mr. Herriman with anyone, let alone Frankie, or ANY child character paired up with any other character unless it's just that funny, cute, kiddie crush sort of thing, and no more. I'm not terribly into OC's unless they are really well-written and developed, and unfortunately, most tend to be very much "Mary Sues" or "Gary Stues", and I don't have too much tolerance for outright self-insertion fics, either.

As stated before, I adore Mac and Goo together. I just adore it. I have my reasons, but I won't state them unless they are challenged. =D

I have my reasons, but I won't state them unless they are challenged. =D I like Mac and Goo as well, not as a romantic, serious couple, since they are WAY too young for that(now, at least), but they ARE cute together, and they compliment each other well in terms of thinking and figuring things out. Plus, there does not seem to be any issues there with jealousy; Bloo likes Goo, and Goo readily accepts that Bloo is Mac's best friend, unlike how Berry reacted to that situation. It's also nice to see Mac have a human kid as a friend, even though this by no means is meant to put down any of his Imaginary Friend friends at Foster's. pitbulllady

I don't support any Foster's pairings (Frankie in particular) and very likely never will. It's not what the show's about. It's also one of the reasons I avoid most fanfiction; I don't want to think about it, let alone read it.

Well I personally have a rather unique (or, extremely rare) viewpoint when it comes to pairings. Although I am not anti-romance, I am asexual, which means that I never, ever, think about sex. That's just the way my brain is hardwired. Since I am not a "sexual" being by nature, pairings hold little to no interest to me. In fact, romance in stories usually feel to me like they're just slowing the plot down. I'm not saying that I don't think that every character in every fanfic should be asexual (unlike some people who "force" their own sexuality upon fictional characters), its just that sexuality in a fanfic based on a cartoon show where there generally IS no sexuality to begin with stands out to me as awkward on a level I doubt very much is experienced by someone who *has* a sexuality, and who can sympathise with characters going through a romantic encounter.
And don't tell me that romance doesn't necessarily lead to sex. I am 31 now, and I have not yet found another human being to have a romantic relationship with who is happy to NEVER have sex; nor do I think it's likely it will ever happen. It's *possible* but not very likely. And my bitterness regarding that subject is probably what makes me dislike pairings in fanfics of my favorite shows. Romance, to most people, is built to an extent (often a rather large one) on sexual desire, and I do not enjoy thinking about my favorite cartoon characters having sexual desires. Again I'm not saying that I don't *want* them to have such desires or think that they *shouldn't*, *I* just don't want to be forced to read about it. It makes me uncomfortable. That's why I prefer to only read stories that either have NO pairings, or at least has the pairings as background plots. I mean, if the whole point of a story is to build a romance between characters, I have zero interest in reading it. But that's because of my orientation, which I cannot change. I mean, it's beyond say, a hetero reading and enjoying a gay romance story, because the hetero can at least appreciate the whole idea of physical attraction. I can not.
To sum it up, I think pairings are fine. If you want to do a pairing, fine. Hetero- or homo-, I really don't care. But those stories are not for me; they may as well be written in a different language sometimes. And for obvious reasons, I doubt I will ever be able to write a pairing myself, unless it is a completely asexual one. Or I lie out my butt. ;D

Well, I have read some good romance stories (not in the Foster's genre, but other places where I thought good romance was just as unlikely) and I have read some truly AWFUL romance stories. I find that the ultimate factor is whether or not the attraction is based on lust. It seems that most stories are written by girls who are at an age where they might have been in amorous situations before, but most likely have not and even if they have, wouldn't be very experienced. So, they feel like a strong productive relationship can be bsed on lust, which is simply not the case. Granted, I have NO experience in the romance field myself (being of the tender age of fifteen), but I know enough that devotion to another human being in a romantic sense takes time and can't EVER be a split second thing.
In short, love at first sight only occurs in really bad fanfiction.

Firstly, my heart will not grow three sizes this post. I will not, however, knock your favorite pairing if you have one (although I don't like Goo because she annoys me). Well, I'm not asexual, but I do happen to not ship any pairing (except Mac and Bloo's friendship, but that probably doesn't qualify, so never mind), of any fandom, ever, at any time, in any place. It just doesn't interest me at all, really. It's usually not so much that I don't like a pairing that I don't like what people do with it, because almost any pairing can be done, but it usually requires several gallons of angst and aging of the characters for it not to be illegal. Well (again), I love to argue probably more than the next guy, or more than is healthy, for that matter, but arguing about pairings feels kinda like hearing about Brad and Angelina's baby now. (Although admittedly I sometimes feel a vague urge to write/draw some pairing I don't ship just to challenge myself, show people how I'd do it, and see if I'd get instantly popular...) I have done to the Mac/Bloo discussion the equivalent of repeatedly beating a horse that has been dead for years, and don't want to be lynched by angry fangirls, so we won't go into that. Instead I will concur that romance in Foster's fics (or fics of any kids' shows where romance plays a very small-to-nonexistant role) seems... very... out-of-place and hideously boring. I also do not condone the usage or creation of Mary-Sues. Those of you with original characters might be enlightened by this test: www.springhole.net/quizzes/marysue.htmSo here's the thing. I will be frank: I hate fandom. I hate fanfiction. I hate seeing weird pairings that give me the jibblies. People are totally allowed to like what pairings they... like, but I'm a selfish tard and will tell you right now that I wish fanfiction and fanart of comedy shows could be at least a little comedic, and I wish that fanfiction and fanart of shows that are not Japanese would not have Japanese maid catgirl nurse waitress demoness elven angel schoolgirl Mary-Sues. All the fics, all the fics, all the fics, fics, FICS!! ..... I like you guys, of course, but you guys are cool and don't count. I don't like fandom in general because it really creeps me out, so I don't read fanfiction at all, and find it easier to assume that I will not find anything I like, because I usually don't.
