I like angst in Foster's. But I have a good reason so just hear me out. In fan-fic, it's fun to step outside the box, taking characters to new places and seeing how they'd react. Pure death and horror bugs me, but having a few happy moments to balance it out helps (my personal favorite is Tears of Blood, soooo awesome!). If the characters are too dark, the fic feels bland and hopeless. If the characters are too light, the fic feels empty and boring. You need midground to keep them true and make the fic interesting. JUST staying in the lines of the show can get old after a while. I do agree, homosexual relationships and slash are starting to get old. I completely go against WiltxEduardo. Also, WiltxOC is getting stale. BlooxOC is never done right. MacxOC is hard to do. All in all, a show charactersxOC is a bad idea if you make it too cute and mushy. Bloo doesn't go head over heels for just anyone. He'd probably just dismiss his feelings as sickness or something, but slowly become more annoyed and confused by his feelings and end up talking to Frankie (he'd want to keep his pride, so he wouldn't talk to Mac) and finding out it's love. Where Bloo would go from there would vary. Whatcha think of my logic

Beaver I agree about the part with Bloo seeking advice from someone other then Mac in the beginning. He may even try to fight whatever feelings he has at first with whatever character they are pairing him with. That's Bloo all right. But, in the end, I can totally see him with Mac, one way or the other. But that's just my opinion. What it comes down to, completely on my own thought here, is that you can read whatever you want or write whatever you want. The people who don't like it simply should not READ IT. Plain as simple as that. While those of us who do want to read it, can do so, enjoy it, leave our reviews, ask the writers for more, etc. It's a free world, people.

I don't have a problem with angst, since there IS actually plenty of it on the show, and, as beaver pointed out, as long as it isn't overdone and is interspersed with humor, it can be a good thing. Lauren Faust herself more or less said this on the TV.com board; you can go overboard with having everything all happy and sunny all the time, too, and it starts to look a bit like "Barney"(GAG!). Most "OC's", when it comes to relationships with established characters, tend to be too "Mary Sue-ish".

Mary Sue-ish? Sort of uncultured here, so... I'm glad you guys agree with me. I feel all special

Mary Sue-ish? Sort of uncultured here, so... I'm glad you guys agree with me. I feel all special A "Mary Sue" in fanfic-speak is an original character who is a thinly-disquised version of the writer, most of the time, anyway, and who usually is just supposed to be all wonderful and brilliant and perfect, but to the READERS, is annoying as heck! Many writers create "Mary Sues" specifically to have them get involved romantically with an established character from the tv series, movie, book, etc., something that the writer himself/herself would love to be able to do, so the "Mary Sue" sorta takes his/her place. Not ALL OC's(Original Characters), or even those who are romantically involved with Established Characters, are annoying and over-the-top "Mary Sues", but many are. pitbulllady

Me and my best friend were reading some of thr worse M-rated fics and couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry... But the fact is, no matter which board I take a look at, that M rated extra-violent fics with lots of blood, slash and very long descriptions of "certain relationships" ("nights in bed"), have like 1000s of reviews per chapter, while others that are funny and similar to the cartoon hardly get any! I first tried it out on KND. I made up a character, worked long and hard, so she wasn't a Mary-Sue at all, and got 3 reviews on the 1st chapter, worked even harder on the 2nd one, and no reviews at all. Then, I went over to computer games. Worked out a believeable character with true human feelings, understandable by everyone, with the classic problem of a 17-year-old getting her first crush... something about 1 review per 2 chapters... While, of course, another story has kinda 150 reviews; obviously it's M-rated and a male character gets drugged and forced into some kind of relationships I'd better not explain. Went over to my fave TV series, the very very few reviewers told me it was like a real episode, while fics that had male characters paired and absolutely no clue for the series plot still got 1000s of reviews. At Fosters, I realized the WiltxOC was getting annoying, I mean, there's usually a cute IF that is tall like Wilt, love blossoms, then HAPPY END. Nice, but still, M-rated fics with SLASH and stuff get 1000s of reviews. About my fic, I worked out an IF which is kinda small beside Wilt, and we know he's sensible, so I don't think he should run around yelling "I LOVE YOU MY ADORED WHATEVER HER NAME WAS!". So I worked, few reviews as usual. I kinda get 4 for the 1st chap, 2 for the 2nd, 0 to the third. That's my style. Though I put my story as Romance/Angst, it's not that serious. But now I know it's not just me, for I started thinking that my stories are so bad that no one wants to read them. Basically, if you want success: pair males, write looong descriptions, put blood everywhere, and rate it M. That's the recipe.

I really like your fiction. Slash and homosexualistic relationships bore me: THEY ARE SO DAMN CLICHE! Please, just keep going for your idea. Fanfiction.net needs good, original authors who don't take Wilt and have him say, "Say, I barely know you, but PLEASE BE MY ETERNAL LOVE!

All of this is why I don't read fan fiction. I'm pretty sure that no one who posts here writes anything like the scociopathic crap I've seen elsewhere. Even so, a few years ago I ran across a story featuring the gang from "Scooby-Doo" that left me feeling sick. I don't ever want to read anything like that again, especially not something with the Foster's characters, so I just avoid the fanfic sites entirely. I'm missing some good stuff, I know, but I'd rather not take the chance.

I keep on reading instead. Good stroies inspire me, and now I just feel when a fic is about to turn bad. So I avoid them.
But if a story has blood and stuff everywhere, but it's well-written, well... I must admit that I read it.

Even so, a few years ago I ran across a story featuring the gang from "Scooby-Doo" that left me feeling sick. What was it about? Do I really want to know? I can relate to disturbing fan fic: I read this one on Not a Shrimp!.com (Edward Elric fansite) called Elbow Grease...the person who wrote that even admited it was sick and perverted. Don't give up on all fanfic just cuz some idiot decided to ruin a good show (I hate Scooby Doo though, the only thing from SD I liked was 'Scooby Doo on Zombie Island'). I agree with Fomalhaut; some stories are inspirational.

I think some do it as an honest attempt to explore the darker aspects of humankind in general, or of themselves in particular. Others are perhaps going through a bad time in their lives, and this is how they vent their feelings. And some, unfortunately, are degenerates, people with sick minds and twisted desires. The "Scooby-Doo" fic I mentioned earlier was written by a degenerate, of that I have no doubt. It was pretty awful.

I'm new here, but I'll give a little bit of my opions. For agnst fics, I sorta like them. If they keep the characters in character. And I'm a sucker for fics that explore the esscence of two characters friendships. Yes, i'm a sucker for friendship fics, on any section. Expescially on the Wicked section, but that has nothing to do with FHFIF, but still, there are some pretty good friendship fics on that section covering the friendship between Elphaba and Glinda. UGH! WiltOC stories annoy the hell out of me! It's like the girl walks in and Wilt is like, "I love you! Marry me!" I only like romances happing that fast when it's the cause of a potion, Cupid's misaimed arrow [And I'm talking litarly here], etc........you get my point, when the romance happen fast because of something like that and it's SUPPOSED to be stupid and silly, well, then I laugh out loud. As for slash, it annoys me. It's OOC, usually. I mean, I read a Wicked fic once, and, well, I was wondering why in the world Elphaba and Glinda were acting all over each other when they're both supposed to like Fieyro? [Well, only Elphaba in the book, but, does it matter?] Why do people want to slash two best friends all the times? It seems....weird. Well, does are my opions. So, have a nice day! [Please ignore the Wicked refrences, I seem to make refrences in the wrong places]

Yay! I'm not alone! *Dances like Bloo* I've noticed something a bit odd in fandoms. People seem to like angstifying things that were never angst in the first place, and put humor in things that was never humor in the first place.
Let me explain: Once, upon seeing the Phantom Of The Opera movie, and reading the book, I decided to pass by the fanfiction section. You see, I found something intresting, the more popualar stories were romance/humor, humor/parody, and fics with a little bit of drama, but no real angst, if you get what I mean. And don't get me started on the fics that make fun of Mary-Sues, those seem to be the most popular. The angst fics, on that section, however, only have 1 review or so.
Same with the Wicked section. There are drama fics, but, it lacks the demons, violence, and slash [well, sometimes] that most FHFIF fics have. Doesn't that seem a bit odd? I mean, Wicked and Phantom Of The Opera are PERFECT for stories with demons, violence, and all the stuff people normally put in FHFIF fic. And most of the drama on POTO and Wicked section is Erik going, "I'm so sad Christine left me," or Glinda going, "I miss Elphaba, she was a true friend to me." See, the drama and agnst on those sections aren't even that bad. Ok, that's my two cents for today.
