I got home from work, and it was in the papers: apparently, now you can't bring your own liquids onto commercial airliners for "security reasons", not even toiletries. In other words, once you get off the plane, you have to find a Wal-Mart and waste some money you had not intended to spend on another thing of deodorant, toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, etc. What's next? You can't bring your own towels or an extra set of clothes? This is getting so out of hand. We're supposed to be living in fear of God, not some terrorist group that appears out of nowhere and disrupts daily life for Joe Average for the next 100+ years. Right now, my faith in humanity is so shaken....

Would you rather have a death toll rise higher than that of 9/11?
And what's with this "fear of God" crap? Why should we fear some unreachable being instead of something that's right in front of us and bearing explosives? And why would someone bring toothpaste on a carry-on bag, anyway?
The thing is you can BRING those liquids and such, but NOT on your carry-on baggage. People need to get the story right. And babies can have their breastmilk/formulas, and people can bring on their perscription drugs. Your freaking "faith in humanity" would be even MORE shaken if 10 planes were bombed at the same time in both London AND the US of A.
We honestly can't live in fear of these terrorists forever, but it's better to be safe than dead. =/

Well what about the terrorists who force-feed passengers toothpaste? It's poisonous, you know!

Cute. Now, before this gets out of hand, may I suggest that a Foster's forum is not the most appropriate place to discuss terrorism?

The thing is: I work as a civilian contractor on a military base, and I have to show up to work at 4:00 am, and it's bad enough that I have to drag myself out of bed at 2:55 am, when I don't even want to get out of bed in the first place.....and I'm faced with the prospect of having to have my vehicle searched and having to be asked a series of questions while my head isn't even clear tomorrow because of this.....and then explain why I'm late to my supervisor, who hates me with every fiber of her existence and has been looking for any excuse to fire me without fear of getting sued.
My apologies. I'm just frustrated.

Well, when it's on every news station every hour on the hour, the story is bound to get twisted and turns in every way. I dun blame you for being frusterated; the more populous airports are STILL going through the screening from yesterday!
Just kidding. But the lines were long, hundreds of flights were cancelled or delayed, and thousands of packages of toothpaste, hair gels, water bottles, soft drinks, etc were thrown out upon sightings. No one got in trouble for having them, though, they were just thrown out. It's just time consuming.
But thank the world for the British, eh?

Regarding the British, for kicking their butts in the 1770s, they give us Monty Python, DangerMouse, Dr. Who, Heath Bars, Earl Grey tea, and other exports I failed to mentioned. I just have to question where the line will eventually have to be drawn. I haven't flown since 1980, personally, and my grandparents, who took trips to Las Vegas every year before my grandfather started having back problems, spoke volumes about flying in this post-9/11 world we live in, about how they have to remove their footwear in addition to emptying their pockets and purses before crossing the security arches. It's unbelieveable. And I can imagine the numerous complaints filed by passengers about "Dying of Thirst" because beverages are not allowed to be served on flights in the wake of this "Liquid Explosive" threat. It's simply...It's frustrating. It really is.

This definitely is a very touchy subject, and I'm uncertain as to how long it'll last. I'll go ahead and throw in my comments, and not blame anyone on this.
I have mixed emotions on what has happened in the past week. First of all, the ban on many liquids, toothpaste, and so on. To me, it sounds ridiculous. I can understand the previous set of rules, before that incident in London happened, however, the additional rules -- why? Some say that this is going to stick around. I don't think so, but we'll see. I've heard much of the media say that it could last a good while, but I don't believe it.
As for succeeding in disrupting terror plans, way to go! Many lives were saved that day. I, for one, hope to never face terrorism up close and personal. 9-11-01 was painful enough as it is. As for security, I respect both opinions on "liberties" and "security". The truth is that if we went back to the pre-9/11 rules on security, we'd easily see more attacks in the United States and in other parts of the world. On the other side, it does seem like our rights are diminishing somewhat. So, yeah -- it would be nice to live in the old days again, but right now, we can't. Until Islamic extremists are wiped out (or the root is destroyed), we cannot go back to the pre-9/11 way, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.
I won't go much further here, because I feel that this isn't the best place for the discussion. I must say to all that we must be alert, however, we also must not let these thugs disrupt our lives.
