...She did! I uncovered her cage this morning and there it was, just sitting in the middle of the floor. Kiwi was off in her "Happy Hut" which is a cloth tube-thing that some birds like to sleep in, just snoozin'. Nine years old this month she is, and she just laid an egg. Holy crudnuts. (No it won't hatch for anyone who's wondering, sometimes female birds just lay eggs without embryos in them if they don't have a mate.) The good news is, I had been worried about her being a tad listless recently (and wanting to eat entirely innappropriate things) and today she seems back to normal. So. Lol. I can't believe she laid an egg.

I tried to take one but it didn't really come out. Maybe I'll try again later. It's different-looking than a hen's egg, very wide at the wide end and very pointy at the pointy end. White though. My parakeets used to lay eggs and they were more hens' egg-shaped.

Awesome! Too bad that it won't hatch though, although I guess taking care of a baby bird would be a hassle... so, what are you gonna do with it? I'll eat it if you pay me. Whaddya say?

Talk about a small omelet! I've eaten infertile snake eggs on a dare, though, and they were actually better than chicken eggs since they're mostly yolk, instead of that yucky white part. pitbulllady

Lol, no thanks. I dunno what I'm going to do with it. I guess even though its infertile it will go bad eventually if I just keep it so either I'll try draining it out or I'll just have to throw it out. Its kinda pretty though. My baby made that. (Not that she cares!)

Heh. That reminds me of the time I was pet sitting my friends gerbils after his house caught on fire and after two days they just started popping out babies (despite the fact that my friend had kept them for two years without incident). Sounds like an interesting looking egg though. Draining it seems like a cool idea.

How do you suggest cooking snake eggs? Scrambled? Fried? I made a cheese omelet with them, but then I like cheese omelets. I mean, an egg's an egg; the main difference is in the size and shape of the outer shell, and the ratio of yolk to albumen(white). I've seen McCaw eggs, and they are sorta pointy, too, but they're BIG! You can actually buy fertilized parrot eggs from bird breeders, if you have an incubator, and incubate and hand-feed your very own baby parrot, which is much cheaper than buying an already-weaned bird, but I'd only recommend that for the serious expert bird person who has a LOT of time on their hands! pitbulllady

Update on the egg...I actually drained it out the night I made the first post about it...I poked a hole in the small end with a needle and a slightly bigger hole in the other end, scrambled the insides up with the needle as best I could, then sucked everything out with a big plastic syringe I had from when I had my wisdom teeth out (I had used it like a water pick to flush food out of the "craters"). It was weird, it really was just like a little chicken egg. She hasn't laid another one, which is good, and she sure seems relieved to have that thing out of her, lol. I gave her her birthday toys yesterday and she's been so busy playing with them she doesn't even want to come out of her cage! (It's so cute, one of them is bird-toy music box, and she freaking LOVES that thing. "You Are My Sunshine" over and over again.)

Well, she laid another one, and this time when I tried to take it she got mad so I left it there. Lol.
