Like you said earlier, maybe in this thread, it could be because they themselves are going through teenage angst.... but I don't understand it even then. It's like people who listen to depressing music because they are depressed. When I'm sad, depressing music makes it worse. If the authors feel that way, I don't know why they'd want to inflict it on the characters in their stories...

It's so pointless. Why not spend the time and energy trying to improve oneself and one's life instead of wasting it torturing cartoon characters? If you need to see misery go watch the news, but don't create more of it, fictional or otherwise.

Well, people do get there anger out in written, so, maybe putting the characters in aweful situations make them feel better. I read a story once and the girl and the story said she, "would write about people in much worse situations then her and it would make her feel better." I think it might have been a story in one of my Chicken Soup For The Soul books. I really can't remember at the moment, but anyway......... Another thing that bothers me in fanfics, WHY does it seem that everyone wants to turn turn Mac into a goth cutter? I can't see Mac ever turing into one. I can see Mac turing into a pretty cool [But dorky, Mac must always stay a dork, or he wouldn't be cool. ] teenager. And, what's with this Frankie/Mr. Herriman fics I'm seeing recently? That really makes no sense to me what's so ever. I can see them getting along to a certain extent, but, actually forming a loving relathionship? No, I don't think so.

True, but why vent on fictional characters? Why not write about something horrid happening to the people one is really mad at? I'm not suggesting that it's a good idea, just that it's a little easier for me to comprehend.
As for Frankie and Mr. Herriman, I can see them forming a strong friendship, at least in theory, and they'd almost certainly go to the wall for each other if they had to (even the Bundy's on "Married With Children" did that), but evolution and biology would prevent anything further from developing. They're different species, and different species just aren't normally attracted to each other that way. (Besides, Frankie's mine... ;D)

ARRRGH. I've seen at least three fics where Mac is a cutter. Even if Mac was depressed, I highly doubt he'd cut himself. He's too smart.

Anyways, I may be one of the most "purist" people ever. I think that if a fanfic is written about something that is supposed to be funny, it should also be funny. If the characters are obviously straight and just friends, they should stay straight and just friends. If there is no one named Ravyn with red streaks in her hair who Wilt finds himself strangely attracted to, there should not be one....... and so on and so forth. o.o I agree with you. Purest? I guess I'm one of the Purest too then. I completely avoid any type of slash fan-fics. It's disgusting. And yeah, the show is just supposed to be a funny thing. If people wanna mangle that sort of feel of a show, then consider it NOT Foster's. They're simply using the same character names. Oh, and they have imaginary friends. O.O I just realized why people do this for Foster's! People who like that kinda stuff OBVIOUSLY have a desire to create an imaginary friend, so they write their crazy fan-fics! Dun get me wrong. Just because you want an imaginary friend, I'm not saying you're someone who likes that kinda, er, slashy, gory, stuff. I want an imaginary friend! But I guess for those who do, they figure that making a story with IFs would be cool, and since they have no REAL imagination, they need to take someone else's idea and write a fan-fic about it. Okay, I have no idea what I'm talking about. In fact, you can ignore this post. I think I just needed to get this outta me. It's just how I feel. Or something. I dunno. Why I'm even posting this is beyond me. Why I keep typing is beyond me. Okay, I'm stopping now.

ARRRGH. I've seen at least three fics where Mac is a cutter. Even if Mac was depressed, I highly doubt he'd cut himself. He's too smart. True that. He would be smart enough to remember that everyone at Foster's will always be his friends so he'd never be COMPLETLY alone and lonley or anything like that with no one to talk to or anything.
